Microsoft Terminal Services
Microsoft's Terminal Service software allows a user to run the ISU software on a remote server via an Internet/VPN connection. This works exceptionally well for users with slower connections (i.e. modems). If you utilize Terminal Service, the ISU software and all data must be located on your server, or on the ISU server.
With a pure VPN setup, without Terminal Service, some insolvencies may be maintained locally on your server and others on the ISU server.
Requirements for Terminal Service User:
Windows 95 / 98 / ME / 2000 / XP and an internet connection.
Requirements for Terminal Service Server:
High speed internet line, Windows 2000 or XP Server and VPN Hardware.
Examples of Terminal Service Usage:
#1 A Guaranty Fund has two remote offices that process claims but for various reasons (cost, location, limited usage) are unable to justify the cost of high speed internet lines. The Guaranty Fund can install Terminal Service on their Windows 2000 or XP server and install Netscreen/VPN hardware (supplied by ISU). The two remote offices only need a modem and inexpensive ISU supplied software to access the Guaranty Fund's server. The remote offices can then connect to the Guaranty Fund server and process data at a speed close to the local users at the Guaranty Fund office.
#2 A Guaranty Fund that does not have their own server can utilize the ISU server to accomplish the same functions described in Example #1.
